The Captains Log / Northern Markets
Barton & Gray Mariners Club’s Outing Portfolio
In the beginning we had a vast understanding of the sea and all of the great outings available, but now after three years, our members have discovered more than we could imagine. The following is running log of a sampling of popular and new outings from the field.

Tuckernuck, Nantucket’s little sister island is the year-round home to no one except the seals. The beach is clean, the water warm and the views unmatched elsewhere, making this outing very popular with our members. Even more, the trip there and back is extremely enchanting along the sandbars and views of the coastline and Nantucket Sound. |

With the southern tip of Aquidneck Island situated relatively closely offshore compared to other coasts, the water clarity and temperature make for fabulous snorkeling and swimming. You will find turles, tropical reef fish, starfish, clams, crabs and untold other creatures hovering and dancing along the rocks and seagrass along the shoreline. Our Newport Hinckley has 2 sets of snorkeling gear on board. |

Visiting New York City by boat is a unique and wonderful excursion for anyone. Taking a Hinckley up the Sound to the city from Greenwich is extraordinary. The architecture, sites and great art installments make the trip a blast, whether you get off the boat and take in the city from land or not. |

If you mandated this trip as the only trip allowed, there would be few complaints. Taking one of our Nantucket yachts up the harbor, along the shores of gorgeous homes to your starboard and protected dunes on the port, then landing at the docks at the Wauwinet prior to a meal at the venerable Topper's is one of the finest outings we know of.

There are almost always races starting in the waters off of Newport, but none rival the start of the Bermuda race. With hundreds of yachts jockeying for the best position before disappearing over the horizon, this is most certainly an under-appreciated spectator sport. |

In a classic grey shingled classic New England building right on the Five Mile River, the restaurant offers great service, food and libations. Very few of our members who have done some yachting in Greenwich have avoided this enjoyable outing.

The pristine waters of Nantucket are home to some of the best clams and scallops on this earth. Pick your own right out of the waters in just a few feet of water. Check with the captain on the seasons and state regulations. We’ll keep the horseradish and lemons cold. |

Over the past few years a growing syndicate of 12 Metres have found a home in Greenwich Harbor. The former America’s Cup sailboats are both exciting and exquisite to watch race off the coast of Connecticut most weekends and many evenings throughout the season. |
